All of this is pretty much baseless, but it's what I've come to believe one way or another.
Celestial bodies like suns or stars, should be assumed to be alive in some manner and have a will of their own. Not alive as in they live in the same manner as we do, but almost more like plants and at a far slower rate. The earth's decisions would be closer to bursts of magma or shifts or tectonic plates than anything else.
To assume otherwise would be bad if on the off chance that the planets did possess a kind of will.
I believe that our existence is due to concerted effort by both the earth and the sun. And if either of them wanted us gone, we would be easy to wipe out. There is no coincidence of the Indo-European gods primarily being a sky father and an earth mother.
When a person dies, if there is a soul it would likely return to one or both of these places. The flesh and body would be left behind, and the person's soul would be burned down into its core. To a good person this would be heavenly, and to an evil person this would be eternal suffering. And thus the light of heaven and the fires of hell would be similar or nearly identical in their essence.
This means that things like light and water are divine in nature, coming from a higher power to bestow upon us life. For what reason who knows, but I believe these celestial bodies want their creations to be as strong as possible. That is why they are set to compete against each other brutally and suffer. They only want the most enduring and strong types to survive if they have any chance of actually leaving and thriving elsewhere.
