It would make a lot of sense if Rome was founded by a Greek nobility that gradually integrated into the general Italian populace. Many of Europe's nobilities trace themselves back to Troy.
I had heard the idea that Latin was created as a business language, but the idea that it would have been a business language more specifically for Italians that did not want to write Greek also makes plenty of sense.
