This has been my conundrum, I've decided that when I'm forced to get a new one, I'll be buying one of those faraday cage bags to go with it.
the problem nowadays are that most android phones save for a handful aren't compatible with custom roms (especially in the US) due to manufacturers blocking people from accessing the bootloader, its even worse in the US since some carriers will even block you from accessing the bootloader on the few phones that have an unlockable bootloader (needed to install privacy orientated roms like lineageos or graphene os). and the few phones that do support custom roms either just won't work with most US carriers, work partially but have necessary features that wouldn't work with a custom rom (like with the Exynos samsungs and how lineageOS doesn't support VoLTE for them due to samsung's proprietary software for that), or are too old and will become obsolete in another 3-4 years (most of the SD 845 phones and older that have only 4-6gb of ram) if you do anything more than browsing the web and watching videos.
The Samsung note nine is only 4.5g ( it says 5gs for some carriers but its a lie) and its the last flagship note ever developed, every note after the nine is a solid devolvement from this titan. now available for 200$ on ebay or 400 mint.
imo the S10+ is a better option for only 50-150 more, especially if ur lucky enough to get the 12gb ram 1tb storage model.

the newer xperias are nice but holy fuck why are they all like 1100 USD
worse stats how?, the S10+ has a newer cpu and depending on which version of the note 9, it either has the same amount of ram or 2gb more (compared the 6gb model note 9s). also a similar battery + better display and camera
